Q: Do you charge by the hour or flat rate?

We always charge a flat rate for song production.

Q: How much do you charge for song production?

Email us for rates. Please include links to any music you have or a YouTube video that lets us hear your voice.

Q: Do you work with anybody?

No. Time is a limited resource and each song takes between 40-50 hours from start to finish. We only work with singers whom we believe have a chance at commercial success. If you have a great voice and strong passion, that’s exactly what you need to get started. Songwriting and recording experience are less important – that’s our specialty and we can guide you through the process. You just need to bring your voice, your passion, and a good attitude.

Q: Do you offer deals for full albums?

Yes. Email us for more info on rates.

Q: I've never written a song before - can we still work together?

We take on singers all the time that have no previous writing experience. Almost every song that is produced by Zedd Records is a co-write with the artist. You’ll be working with award-winning songwriter and producer Mark Zubek to create a song that will evoke an emotional response in your listeners and be commercially viable.

Q: Your rates are not cheap, can you guarantee my song will be a success?

Success greatly depends on your definition and what your personal goals are but we can guarantee you’ll be happy with your song and that it will be competitive with hit-radio. We’re with you every step of the process to make sure it sounds exactly the way you want. While on the topic of success, our stats speak for themselves: in 2013 90% of our songs received grant funding and in 2012 60% of our songs were licensed to a TV show, movie or commercial.

Q: How much do I pay upfront?

We require a 20% deposit to book your first session with Mark. 40% is required on the day of your first session with the remaining 40% payable upon delivery of the final Master. We also offer flexible payment plans too. Get in touch with us to discuss further.

Q: I don't play an instrument - can we still work together?

Yes. We work with many talented singers that do not play an instrument. Talent comes in many forms and many great singers and songwriters have very limited abilities on actual musical instruments.

Q: I don't have a band - will I have to hire one?

No. Our flat rate song production includes all studio musicians.

Q: I have a band - can we work together?

Yes. We can accommodate bands for song production as well.

Q: I primarily write lyrics - I'm not great at coming up with melodies. Can you help me execute my vision?

Yes, we work with many singers who only write lyrics. Mark knows how to organize your lyrics in a powerful way and set them to melodies that will tell your story with impact. The best thing to do would be to contact us with the details so we could discuss the vision for your specific project.

Q: I don't sing. Do you have session vocalists available to sing my song?

Yes, we occasionally work with songwriters who don’t sing. Zedd Records has a roster of over 200 singers for you to choose from to get the exact sound you want.

Q: I want to work with Zedd Records - where do I start?

Email us to set the date for your first session.

Q: I'm not in the Toronto area - can we still work together?

Yes, we work with artists all the time from all over the world – from New York and Montreal, Los Angeles, and Nashville, to Paris, France, and Sydney, Australia! Most of the work, if not ALL, can be done remotely online.

Q: How are you different from a typical recording studio?

We exclusively work on producing hit-radio quality songs, as opposed to simply charging by the hour for recording time. We are equally committed to the songwriting end as we are to the production and recording side.

Q: What will you do to help me after the song is finished?

We aggressively promote every one of our artists to music supervisors for TV, film and commercial licensing opportunities as well as applying for grant funding available to music artists.

Q: Why don't you charge by the hour?

We are not your run-of-the-mill recording studio. We only take on projects that involve producing commercial quality songs that can compete with hit radio. This isn’t something we can promise anybody in an hour as it generally takes at least 40-50 hours to achieve the level of quality we have built our reputation on.
